Kindle Publishing Open to US only?

Hi, first of all pardon me if someone else has already asked this before. I have just tried to create an account for Kindle publishing and realized only when I wanted to add my blog that I cannot choose the country where I am residing. The default is United States. May I know if this is open to people from other countries too or only for US.

1) What is the timeline for this to open to non-us people?
2) I would prefer if I know as one of the first steps that I can't add a blog because I'm not from the US. Now I lost a lot of time and only when I add my account data noticed it was US only

That's how I see it. It's quite annoying to register for blog publishing and learn afterwards that this ist not possible for non-US publishers. But I think that Amazon is an US company focused on their home market. There are several other functions around Kindle that are not available to non-US residents. But Apple will change that I hope...

Does amazon have any update as to when Canadian and other non US folks will be able to publish on Kindle?
I filled out my blog info and only realized upon filling out banking info that I could go no further.

Personally I think they should make non-US bloggers payable via Amazon Gift Certificates like they do with Amazon Associates. I would be more than happy with that.
